The Dallas home Design:

This was a fantastic house in Dallas I was thrilled to have the opportunity to design, it was a contemporary design with very clean, sleek lines.   The challenge was to create a warm and inviting environment that would be good for entertaining but also functional for a busy family.

The house was unusual in the way that there were no crown moldings or trim around any of the doors or windows.  I wanted to add softness with a mix of textures, comfy rugs and a good amount of lamplight.

Entry

The entry was large and open with a great marble and steel grid element on the floor. We found a great round wood table that was a good balance to the stark marble on the floor and the chandelier above it helped anchor the space visually.

The color palette stayed pretty neutral in the livingroom, we used creams and soft grays to add some elegance but used materials like linen, crushed velvet, slubby silk to keep a casual feel, the large cream/green fireplace was a huge element because it sat right in the middle as a divider between the living room and the dining room.  The dining room was so long that if we put one table in there that ran the length of the room you’d have to have 20 people for dinner or you’d never use the table.   The homeowner suggested using two round tables so if they were just entertaining 6-8 people they could sit comfortably at one table and keep an intimate feel while dining.Dining
We used two chandeliers and lots of soft light in there to illuminate when you want to create a mood for entertaining. The family room was designed with kid friendly activities and TV viewing in mind, the big brown sofa will withstand stains and dirt and the suede microfiber wears well and feels soft.

The one room with a strong punch of color was the rich navy blue guest room, I loved the dark wood on the ceiling and by painting just the wall the headboard was on navy (and the other three white) it added some great dimension and a cozy feel.

I had fun doing the bedding treatments in the children’s rooms; I used their hobbies and interests as a spring board to the design, than chose fabrics in their favorite color palettes and created their canopy treatments so they would feel like princesses every time they walk into their rooms.
