Libby Langdon’s Small Space Solutions:
Stylish Design Ideas for Every Room-Every Budget.
I what to tell you what my book is all about and show you some behind the scenes pictures from the photo shoot!
… But first, some questions…Do you live in a small space? Do you want some fresh design ideas and inspiration that won’t cost you an arm and a leg? Do you want great tips on how to make your space function as well as how to make it look beautiful? You might be looking for some hard and fast information that you can use to create the space you envision yourself living in and loving… I just so happen to know how to help you do that! My book will give you wonderful tips that will help you make a space you’ll really love to be in. Maybe you love your bedroom but you can’t get a sense on how to make your living room work, or your kitchen area is great and you really hate the vibe of your bedroom, I’ll help you identify and rectify the problems by figuring out what you’re liking and not liking and encourage you think about the room in your home that you like the least (you know the room that makes you want to buy a book like this in the first place) and how to convert it into your favorite room! It’s not all about starting from scratch (unless you want to) but more how to transform, rework and incorporate your existing furnishings into your new design scheme and as well as add some simple solutions to update your overall look. You’ll see that this book is chock full of things you can ACTUALLY do yourself to make changes to your home that will work whether you’re in a tiny studio apartment, a compact condo or a little house (or you just want some cool, cost conscious ways to create your own chic space). You won’t need a custom carpenter or loads of cash to implement my ideas which range from ways to visually trick the eye and make your rooms SEEM larger, to how to easily incorporate systems of storage and organization that will let you capitalize on the space you DO have. In addition to helpful hints there are loads of great pictures that are meant to illustrate, illuminate and inspire the re-design of your space (some of them aren’t teeny-tiny spaces but I believe you’ll be able to use the images as a springboard to discovering the best way to announce your own personal style). I think interior design should be fun, easy and accessible and most of all I want to give you the tools, support and encouragement to design the most beautiful, comfortable and practical house that you’ll call home no matter how small it is!
I also wanted to let people know that you can still create a high style look in a small space you just need to think outside the box (literally) and get clever with your design. The other thing that was important for me to offer in the book was general interior design tips, secrets and design inspiration. Not just how to actually makeover your space but how you create the look you want in the first place! So I’ve got you covered…I’ll help you begin by deciding on the look you want, how do you achieve the look, and how can you make it not only look beautiful but also function for the needs of your small room.
Each chapter addresses the most common problems encountered in a particular space— living room, dining room, kitchen, bathroom, bedroom, office, or hall—and presents solutions and sample layouts, as well as numerous color photos showing transformed spaces “before” and “after” and illustrating small-space design tips. I also spell out the top ten mistakes people make in small spaces, and provide step-by-step instructions for everything from styling a wall unit to painting and hanging art; appendices of color groupings and best paint and wood color combinations, double-duty furniture, and hardworking accessories; and an extensive glossary of design terms.
PLEASE KEEP AN EYE OUT FOR IT IN MARCH 2009!!!!!!
11. when photographing set ups for the book not only did we have to shoot it all but I actually had to set it all up too!!! I'm pretty good with a hammer and a nail! |

1.This picture is me with the Photographer, Noel Sutherland, he shot everything digital so as he'd take a picture we could see it a few seconds later come up on his computer screen. It was super helpful so we could see whether we'd gotten the perfect shot or not! |
2. Here I am hamming it up with Noel's super duper camera...you can see we were shooting in a small bathroom! |
3. Here's a picture of me that will go with my step by step plan on how to de-clutter your space! You can see I'm holding bags that say, Give Away, Pitch and Donate! |
4. Here I am with Noel looking at the pictures on the computer after the "de-cluttering" shots we took at the front door. |
7. Just because the book is about small spaces doesn't mean we could only shoot in small spaces...sometimes I needed to shoot in big locations and then crop the pictures down...it's the magic of photoshop! |
8. Here I am with Noel, this was the set up for the cover of the book, we'd been shooting all week and I was tired but I was excited to shoot the cover!!! |
9. Here I am posing for the book cover in front of a plexiglass dollhouse (get it? a dollhouse is a small space?) We ended up photoshopping out the dollhouse in the background because it looked too busy but the natural light coming in the window was so nice and fresh! |
10. Here's a shot of me being a nut with Noel's camera...it had been a long week of shooting and I was starting to going a little crazy!!!!! |
